The Faiths Act Fellowship is an opportunity for young leaders of faith to become ambassadors for inter-religious cooperation achieving the Millennium Development Goals and ending deaths due to malaria. It is a partnership between the Interfaith Youth Core and the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.

On behalf of the Interfaith Youth Core and the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, thank you for your support and contribution to the Faiths Act Fellowship!  The application period is now closed. Thanks to you, we have a remarkable applicant pool, demonstrated by both the high volume and impressive caliber of applications.  We turn now to the selection process, which will conclude with the announcement of the fellowship recipients on World Malaria Day, April 25th.

World Malaria Day is April 25, 2009. We Want You to Act Now to raise the awareness and funds needed to prevent a million unnecessary deaths each year.

Join Faiths Act Together volunteers already at work in 27 different countries. All it takes is two simple steps.

Step One: show the Short Film "The Story of a Bed Net" to raise awareness and funds to combat deaths from malaria.

Get together with others to raise funds. One insecticide-treated bed net only cost $10. That net can protect an entire household from malaria.

You can do this in your neighborhood, community, and place of worship; on your campus or with your sports team; or simply with a few friends. There are lots of ways to get involved. You can find ideas and step-by-step toolkit here.

Step Two: Tell us about it.

Once you've shown the film, tell us about the event and send us a photo via e-mail. We will be post your words and photo on The Global Movement Map on this website. Your work will inspire others around the globe. Click here to tell us your story.

In Spring 2009, thirty outstanding young people will be chosen to serve as inter-religious ambassadors for the Millennium Development Goals.

The Faiths Act Fellowship will empower thirty religiously diverse young leaders from the US, UK and Canada to embark together on a 10 month journey of interfaith service.  Training begins with a 2 month intensive initiative that includes training in London and Chicago and fieldwork with primary health care partners in Africa. Fellows will return to their home countries for 8 months to mobilize young people of faith to raise awareness and resources to promote the Millennium Development Goals. They will focus on fighting deaths due to malaria.

Halting and reversing the spread of Malaria is one of today’s most urgent moral challenges.  500 million people contract the disease each year and one million die from it. The vast majority of malaria's victims are African children under the age of five. Yet, malaria is preventable and treatable. Intervention is as simple as providing bed nets that protect sleeping families. Progress in the fight against deaths due to malaria will speed our collective success toward achieving 6 of the 8 Millennium Development Goals.

In their home countries, Fellows will be hosted by a local organization whose mission fits closely with this project. Host organizations in the UK include Muslim Aid, World Vision UK, Tzedek, and the Christian-Muslim Forum.
