She is the President of the Religious Studies Student Association at UIUC where she has organized events to promote discussion of religion in an academic setting. Emily was a National Merit Scholar, and was awarded the Cohn Scholarship given to the top eight humanities majors at her university. She was also an IFYC Conference Leadership Scholar in 2009.
