| Nadeem is a sophomore at Wesleyan University and is interested in studying religion as well as pursuing a pre-med track. During his freshman year, Nadeem was an active member of the MSA and Interfaith Justice League on campus, and also developed a proposal with Christian and Jewish friends for a week-long interfaith program for 15 of his peers. As a sophomore, he will also serve as co-president of the MSA. He draws much of his inspiration for interfaith work on campus from his friendship with former IFYC Chicago Youth Council participant and current Wesleyan Jewish Renaissance project fellow, Adina. Wesleyan is just beginning to deal directly with issues of religious identity and expression on campus, and Nadeem feels he can play an instrumental role in shaping policy for years to come. He was hand-picked to sit on a newly formed Advisory Committee for Spiritual and Religious Life, and is also working to develop a Middle Eastern Studies program at Wesleyan. Nadeem writes, "I am ready for this challenge. I am willing to dedicate every last bit of my energy towards developing an interfaith presence at Wesleyan. With the help of friends, I have already initiated this movement—not merely on campus, but beyond as well. This has given me a place to stand. Now I ask you for a lever, and I promise to move the world." |
